Overview & Scope

The Journal of Sanātana Dharma (JOSD) is an international, peer-reviewed, biannual, multilingual academic journal. JOSD approaches academic research through an Indic perspective and the indigenous evolution of culture and civilization, including traditions across Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism.

We invite submissions for our Special Research Section (Rolling Call) focusing on:

Socio-Cultural Studies of Pasmanda Communities

This call aims to initiate fresh, evidence-based, and empirical research examining the historical journeys, lived realities, community institutions, knowledge systems, and socio-cultural transformations of Pasmanda communities.

Suggested Research Areas

We encourage original, community-specific, and interdisciplinary submissions in areas including, but not limited to:
  • Historical Evolution & Migration: Historical development, settlement, and regional histories of specific Pasmanda communities.
  • Ethnography & Field Studies: Community-specific ethnographic research, field investigations, and lived experiences.
  • Occupational & Economic Systems: Indigenous knowledge systems, traditional occupations, economic changes, and labor patterns.
  • Cultural Continuity & Transformation: Localized traditions, rituals, religious practices, assimilation, acculturation, and language/folklore.
  • Social Mobility & Organization: Educational transformation, demographic shifts, caste/biradari dynamics, and kinship systems.
  • Governance & Policy: Customary governance, community institutions, contemporary challenges, and policy perspectives.

  • Dual Format Publishing: Accepted papers are published both online and in print according to the editorial schedule.

Submission Guidelines & Process

  1. Submit Abstract First: Authors must initially send an abstract (200–300 words) outlining:
    • Title of the study
    • Community/biradari under study
    • Research objectives & methodology
    • Data sources (empirical, archival, oral history, census, etc.)
    • Expected academic contribution
  2. Editorial Response: Full paper preparation and submission should proceed only after receiving official editorial approval on the abstract.
  3. Paper Focus: Research must be specific to a particular Pasmanda community and grounded in empirical or verifiable evidence.

Sameer Pande

Sameer Pande is a political science researcher associated as a lecturer at the Centre for Indic Studies and serves as Chief Reviewer of JOSD (Journal of Sanatan Dharma). His primary academic focus is Dandanīti and its relevance to global social science frameworks. Working broadly across the social sciences, he engages with research methodology, Indian Knowledge Systems, and comparative civilizational perspectives. He is involved in teaching, curriculum development and has published multiple research papers on Indic political thought and governance.
